Amazon MGM Studios (Studios) is seeking a Corporate Counsel with a detailed familiarity with the motion picture development and production process to join the Library Rights Research team which is responsible for oversight of MGM’s fabled library.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in copyright law (including copyright termination) and rights analysis. Duties include performing detailed chain-of-title review of properties held in a large and complex motion picture and television library, and providing legal advice regarding rights and obligations as they relate to the production of original and derivative film, television, stage and new media development projects.
A day in the life
In this role, you will manage a high volume of projects and counsel creative and business clients across several Studios departments. You will analyze and interpret contracts, relevant legal concepts and guild agreements and you will provide legal advice relating to a wide variety of proposed derivative projects including feature length and episodic productions, podcasts and live stage productions. As you evaluate potential risk, you will provide timely and thoughtful legal advice to Studios’ creative and business units by proposing practical, responsive solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school with active California bar membership
– 5+ years of legal practice experience
– Previous IP and/or entertainment experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Excellent organizational skills
– Highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter who is able to work independently on multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced corporate environment
– Ability and desire to work within a team environment
– Superior written and verbal communication skills, combined with strong critical thinking and determined, tenacious problem-solving skills
– Familiarity with a wide range of entertainment agreements, terms of art and industry custom
– Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. and international copyright law
– Familiarity with DGA, SAG and WGA agreements (including separated rights)
– Experience with Rightsline and other rights management software is desirable but not required
– Excellent computer skills
– Strong legal and business judgment in ambiguous situations
– Capacity to function autonomously yet communicate laterally and upwardly with ease.
– Facility to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
