Corporate Counsel, Public Sector – AWS Legal

Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a talented public sector lawyer to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other Amazon.com businesses selling to U.S. public sector customers. AWS is at the forefront of the “cloud” computing and service industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers and more.

This attorney will support AWS’s public sector business teams negotiating technology licensing agreements, supporting compliance activities, and advising on new programs and solutions for government customers and commercial customers operating in the public sector space. This attorney will provide ongoing legal counsel and contract interpretation for business leaders, and analyze and resolve contract issues. The successful candidate will be a fast learner who is detail-oriented and able to work independently and comfortably while making decisions in ambiguous situations. Compensation will be based on experience and includes equity compensation.

A day in the life

Each day varies, but includes providing day-to-day legal support for the program and operations teams, such as answering questions, addressing various legal issues and implementing solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• J.D. and admitted to at least one state bar
• 5+ years of transactional experience as a practicing attorney
• Experience with public sector contracting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong technology licensing or transactional experience
• Knowledge of general laws relating to government contracting
• Ability to work independently and contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
• A background in software licensing (including open source), web services / cloud computing, or telecommunications is highly preferred
• Experience negotiating and drafting technology licensing agreements with government customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
