Corporate Counsel, Unscripted and Alternative, MGM

MGM Alternative is seeking an experienced business and legal affairs executive for its television and other media projects.

The executive will own the: (i) structuring, negotiation and drafting of development- and production-related agreements including, option, shopping, access, producer, talent, production services and license agreements; and (ii) the day-to-day legal functions of one more unscripted production.

The ideal candidate will have: (i) a demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate and interact with agents, managers and outside attorneys and be able to efficiently communicate status and tradeoffs with other members of the MGM Alternative team; (ii) experience as a production attorney for unscripted programming including drafting and negotiating production-related agreements, pre-broadcast clearance review and advising on clearance issues; (iii) excellent drafting, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational and computer skills.

The candidate must be able to manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment, operate autonomously within corporate parameters and remain cool and levelheaded in pressurized situations. A successful candidate is expected to be able to work collaboratively with colleagues in the MGM Alternative Business and Legal Affairs department and across the studio (interfacing with production management, creative, human resources, finance and production personnel/crew), effectively advise senior-level executives under time-sensitive conditions and generate client satisfaction through strategic thinking and risk analysis.

The office location for this role is in Beverly Hills (and may require being at set/on-location, if/as circumstances may require) and will report to the Head of Business and Legal Affairs, MGM Alternative.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD degree from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 5+ years experience, as an attorney, including experience in business and legal affairs at a television studio, production company or network or similar experience at an entertainment law firm.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
