Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections at Joliet Treatment Center is looking for an energetic and empathetic Corrections Treatment Security Supervisor who will perform professional supervisory functions over Corrections Treatment Officers at its newly built Joliet Treatment Center. The successful candidate will instruct, explain, and enforce rules and regulations with individuals in custody as well as to subordinate employees. Furthermore, this position will monitor facility activity to ensure appropriate and acceptable interaction with staff and individuals in custody. In addition, the person selected for this position will serve as an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team to aid individuals in custody in their recovery efforts. Job Responsibilities
- Serves as a working supervisor.
- Instructs Corrections Treatment Officers.
- Monitors Corrections Treatment Officer activity to ensure appropriate and acceptable interaction with individuals in custody.
- Maintains surveillance of a main gate properly passing authorized individuals in custody, visitors, vehicles, and employees.
- Serves as an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Arbitrates disputes between staff and individuals in custody.
- Supervises the issuance of firearms, ammunition, gas supplies, keys, and hazardous tools from the arsenal to authorized personnel.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires either a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university specializing in criminal justice, penology, psychology, social work or a closely related social science.
OR
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field of study and at least one (1) year of experience providing direct service in the field of mental health and one (1) year of experience in the field of corrections.
2. Requires successful completion of two (2) years’ professional staff experience as a Corrections Treatment Officer or Correctional Officer in a correctional facility.
3. Requires successful completion of an approved corrections treatment officer training program.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers two (2) years of experience working with individuals in custody implementing behavior treatment plans and/or carrying out special interventions to promote appropriate behaviors towards staff and other individuals in custody.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience implementing safety, security, and custodial measures for subordinate staff to follow for patient control.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience gathering data related to security/safety workplace incidents.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience serving as a part of an interdisciplinary team providing meaningful input into an individual’s individualized service plan and/or similar mental health treatment plan.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience arbitrating disputes between staff and/or individuals in custody.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience administering emergency first aid to individuals in custody and/or employees.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience preparing reports concerning unusual incidents, accidents, and/or violations of rules by employees and/or individuals in custody.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of conducting inspections or similar like activity with subordinate security personnel arriving for duty.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience maintaining proper surveillance of an entrance properly passing authorized individuals in custody, visitors, vehicles, and other employees.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience supervising the issuance of firearms and other hazardous like tools from an arsenal or similar like area to authorized personnel.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide.
- Requires the physical ability to perform duties assigned.
- Requires ability to carry a firearm.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
