Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a compassionate and highly driven Corrections Treatment Senior Security Supervisor. The successful candidate will organize, plan, execute, control, and evaluate security operations at the designated facility. In addition to serving as a full-line supervisor and through subordinate Corrections Treatment Officer Supervisors, the person in this position will oversee daily inspections with individuals in custody as well as establish and maintain various type of records and data related to facility security/safety. Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a full line supervisor.
  2. Organizes, plans, executes, controls, and evaluates security operations at the facility.
  3. Oversees daily inspections of all operations at the facility.
  4. Prepares overtime charts and rosters for treatment and security staff.
  5. Gathers data related to facility security/safety incidents.
  6. Serves as a Duty Administrative Officer when assigned, remaining on grounds each day during weekends and holidays.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires either a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university specializing in criminal justice, penology, psychology, social work or a closely related social science.

OR

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field of study and at least one (1) year of experience providing direct service in the field of mental health and one (1) year of experience in the field of corrections.

2. Requires three (3) years’ supervisory experience in a related institutional setting.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with individuals in custody implementing behavior treatment plans and/or carrying out special interventions to promote appropriate behaviors towards staff and other individuals in custody.
  2. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience implementing safety, security, and custodial measures for subordinate supervisory staff to follow for patient control.
  3. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience gathering data related to security/safety workplace incidents.
  4. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience of overseeing and scheduling security trips for individuals in custody such as hospital and/or security furloughs.
  5. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience overseeing daily housing inspections of individuals in custody.
  6. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience administering emergency first aid to individuals in custody and/or employees.
  7. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience preparing reports concerning unusual incidents, accidents, and/or violations of rules by employees and/or individuals in custody.
  8. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience serving as a duty administrative officer or similar like position when assigned.
  9. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience interpreting collective bargaining contracts and supervising union covered employees.
  10. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience of maintaining overtime charts and/or rosters for distribution among subordinate employees.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires successful completion of an approved corrections treatment officer training program within six (6) months of hire.
  2. Requires the physical ability to perform duties assigned.
  3. Requires a valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide.
  4. Requires ability to carry a firearm.
  5. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  6. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
