POSITION SUMMARY
Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc. (OSF) is seeking a dynamic, growth-focused staff member with strong skills in cost and managerial accounting. This position will work closely with the Management team and report to the Financial Controller and have direct responsibility for costing inquiries and analysis.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop cost standards for material and labor
- Design and Implement cost accounting systems
- Analyze production costs and variances and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
- Generate reports for management that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products
- Conduct physical inventories and oversee annual physical inventory
- Develop and support the cost accounting system, documents and records of the organization
- Collect data and plan projects to decide costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, labor usage, waste
- Identify and drive cost savings and purchasing opportunities, working with other operating divisions as needed
- Scaling financial capacity and operations to pace with business growth, goals and objectives
- Analyze monthly financial statements and variance explanations
- Develop and update business modeling financial tools (ie: Proformas) to forecast and assess overall business performance and have predictive models for assessing new opportunities and projects.
- Other ad hoc tasks as necessary
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance; Chartered Professional Accountant or Certified Public Accountant preferred
- Minimum 5 years related experience; accounting, cost analysis, and budget management
- Cost and/or managerial accounting and reporting experience; experience in manufacturing or food processing industry is advantageous
- Strong analytical thinking and detail-oriented mindset
- Experience with QuickBooks and/or Microsoft Dynamics SL Accounting Software (or other accounting software application) required
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications required advanced knowledge of Excel
functionality required
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning software (ERP) is advantageous
- Strong knowledge of cost management methodologies, activities, and cost pools based on direct and indirect cost rates
