Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
The Counsel role is responsible for providing a range of cost-effective, high quality legal services while representing Travelers in all aspects of corporate real estate matters. The Counsel will focus on leasing deals, construction agreements, and facilities management contracts.
What Will You Do?
- Provide legal support on all aspects of corporate real estate portfolio of leased and owned properties
- Draft, negotiate, and complete lease agreements, SNDAs, Estoppels, and other transactional documents
- Work on a wide range of contracts, including construction agreements, facilities management contracts, design and engineering agreements, purchase/sale agreements, and broker agreements
- Manage real estate and environmental due diligence in corporate M&A transactions, and support acquisitions and dispositions of owned corporate real estate assets
- Update templates in response to market trends, business objectives, and regulatory requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subject matter experts, internal clients, in-house legal resources, and outside counsel
- Proactively and regularly convey to senior management status of projects and deal risks
- Effectively use technology and automation in delivering legal services
- This role is an individual contributor

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Minimum of 5 years of prior legal experience in the real estate practice area is preferred
- Advanced knowledge of contract issues in leasing transactions
- Thorough understanding of contract issues in construction agreements
- Creative thinking and drive to find optimal solutions and achieve practical outcomes
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational, drafting, negotiation, communication, and problem solving skills
What is a Must Have?
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school
- Minimum of 3 years of prior legal experience in the real estate practice area
- Active license to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required
