Why does the job exist?

This position will provide expert case consultation to CYFD staff matching and placing children for adoption, as well as training permanency planning staff in designated county offices.

THIS IS A REGIONAL POSITION; THEREFORE, INCUMBENT MAY BE HOUSED IN LAS CRUCES, SILVER CITY, DEMING, ALAMOGORDO, RUIDOSO, T OR C, OR SOCORRO.

How does it get done?
• The Adoption Consultant will document and evaluate cases as per CYFD policy and procedure and in accordance with the Protective Services Division practice model;
• The Adoption Consultant will provide or attend adoption training and will promote adoption in the community;
• The Adoption Consultant develops and participates in recruitment activities to identify families for children with a plan of adoption.

Minimum Qualification

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Guidance and Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or Criminology from an accredited college/university and licensure in New Mexico as a Doctoral Level Psychologist, Psychologist Associate, LISW, LMSW, LPC, LPCC, LMHC or LMFT or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Incumbent will be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments which may include transporting clients including children. Must have own mode of transportation.
