Why does the job exist?
This position will supervise a unit of case workers investigating child abuse and neglect referrals, assessing the risk and safety of the child and taking appropriate action including referring parents and caregivers to safety related services, safety planning with families, preparing cases for transfer to CPS Permanency Planning, and testifying in court.
How does it get done?
• Provide direct supervision to CPS Investigation Case Workers and Seniors and participate on the local county office management team (30%).
• Review, assign and monitor CPS investigations to ensure timely initiation and assessment of child safety so as to reduce recurrence of maltreatment and re-entry into foster care, as well as in-home, voluntary services cases designed to address the safety needs of the child and enhance child and family well being. (30%)
• Review and approve the unit’s work to ensure the provision of quality family centered services in CPS investigations. (20%)
• Review case assessments and dispositions to ensure the provision of quality family centered child focused investigations and on-going protective services and other duties as assigned to achieve agency mission. (20%)
Minimum Qualification
Bachelors Degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university and licensure by the New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners at the LBSW, LMSW, or LISW level or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with NM requirements OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or Family Services from an accredited college/university and two(2) years of any combination of experience including working with communities on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or related experience totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Incumbent will be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments which may include transporting clients including children. Must have own mode of transportation.
