If so, consider applying for the Crew Member – Maintenance Custodian position with the City of Harrisonburg’s Parks and Recreation Department, in which you’ll play a vital role in accomplishing the department’s mission of ensuring the community has a safe system of open spaces and public facilities for their use and enjoyment.
The Crew Member – Maintenance Custodian position is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $17.23 – $18.52 per hour (equivalent to $35,838 – $38,521 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate’s qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.*
*Please note that the City has recently adopted a new compensation schedule, and the compensation listed above took effect on June 25, 2023.
As a Crew Member – Maintenance Custodian, you’ll:
- Support daily operations and activities in the Parks and Recreation Department by cleaning and sanitizing park restroom areas and disinfecting toilets, urinals, and sinks;
- Empty trash from containers and change trash liners in park locations;
- Keep grounds neat and clean at all times, removing debris from park open areas, playgrounds, shelters, and facilities;
- Operate typical/simple grounds equipment in the performance of duties;
- Assist with a variety of building, grounds, and equipment cleaning and maintenance;
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair projects;
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment;
- Assist with a variety of masonry, carpentry, painting, and related building maintenance
- Maintain inventory of custodial supplies;
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of records;
- Report and clean graffiti;
- Assist with snow and ice removal;
- Operate a City vehicle;
- Perform related tasks, as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:
- DMV record review;
- Job-specific physical; and
- Criminal background check.
