POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is in the Field Services Bureau, reporting to the Audits and Compliance section. This is a full-time position that serves as the subject matter expert to the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policy and conducts technical systems integrity audits of agencies or third-party vendors with direct or indirect access to CJIS systems to ensure compliance with CJIS security policy.

SPECIAL NOTE:

This position may be responsible for any of the four CJIS Service Areas. This position is required to travel up to 30 percent of the time in and out of the Service Area.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Conducting reviews of network configurations and applicable network operating systems, server, and workstation hardware hubs, gateways, modems, and routers to ensure compliance with CJIS security policy;
  • Conducting out briefings detailing preliminary findings with command staff, local agency security officer or local agency representatives;
  • Conducting independent research relative to laws, rules and regulations that have an impact on criminal justice data;
  • Providing on-going quality assurance of auditing process, agreements, and manuals to identify potential problems and recommend alternative resolutions;
  • Conducting lectures and/or presenting information to criminal justice agencies and others regarding criminal justice data collection and services and developmental programs; and
  • Participating in conferences, workshops, inter-agency committees, and activities relevant to criminal justice information systems.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming, management analysis, evaluation, planning, or research; or
  2. A high school diploma or its equivalent and eight years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming, management analysis, evaluation, planning, or research; or
  3. Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of eight years.
  4. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of network facilities, network operating systems and data processing techniques;
  • Extensive knowledge of network communications, monitoring software, security procedures and software management tools;
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal Bureau of Investigations and Florida Department of Law Enforcement criminal justice information services (CJIS) policies;
  • Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software systems;
  • Working knowledge of the workings of WAN, LAN-based protocols such as TCP/IP, IPX/SPX and NetBIOS;
  • Skill in oral and written communications and in interacting with others in a variety of work-centered relationships and situations;
  • Ability to learn the operational and technical details of the CJIS Security Policy and to apply that knowledge effectively in auditing the operations of agencies that access criminal justice data;
  • Ability to interact with leadership and operating employees of a wide variety of criminal justice agencies under varied attitudinal conditions to represent CJIS effectively with positive results;
  • Ability to gather factual data by oral and visual means, to integrate, interpret and evaluate that data within the framework of the CJIS requirements to reach and document valid conclusions of the operational integrity of terminal agencies;
  • Ability to accomplish a high volume of assigned audits that require considerable travel (30% of work time);
  • Ability to make effective work-related judgments and decisions; and
  • Ability to train new members.

BASE SALARY:

  • $52,085.94
