Position Summary
The Culinary Arts Instructor Assistant plays a vital role in our program, offering professional and dedicated support to both the instructor and students. You will have the opportunity to provide technical guidance, ensuring our students thrive in their culinary journeys.
Beyond that, your role extends to maintaining program operations, overseeing daily meal production and catering, confirming student competencies, and helping students feel at home while working towards membership hour targets. You’ll also be responsible for keeping student records up-to-date and maintaining essential connections with local employers.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions:
- Provide students with technical instruction in a safe, clean, and productive learning environment; maintain student records to include verification of attendance and competency completion.
- Meet programmatic and accrediting body goals for student completion, placement, and licensure.
- Assist students with job placement and applicable industry or state certifications/licenses in support of meeting placement and licensure/certification goals.
- Exemplify, motivate, and advise students in the areas of program and college expectations and appropriate work behavior and dress standards. Assist counselors, supervisor, and other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student success.
- Complete ongoing professional development to increase technical expertise and instructional skills.
- Assist Program Coordinator with oversight of program budgets and assets; recommend purchases.
- Interact in a positive and professional manner with students, coworkers, and college partners seeking win-win solutions.
- Complete assignments within established timelines in preparation for employer advisory team meetings, college team meetings, and programmatic accreditation.
- Work cooperatively within the college community. Actively serve on college teams as assigned and participate in programmatic and college-wide marketing activities.
Program-Specific Functions:
- Oversees the maintenance and sanitation of the kitchen, equipment, and food truck.
- Coordinates and manages catering events off and on campus.
- Assist with the ordering and receiving of product and maintaining inventory.
- Maintains the operations and oversight of the program when the instructor is not present.
- Assists cashier and/or substitutes for cashier in Campus Grille when required.
- Oversees daily Campus Grille functions.
- Assists the program instructor with monitoring student performance, skills execution, food production, and featured entrée line set-up. Oversees high school student’s progress in the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Culinary Arts certificate required; Associates Degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of related work experience in the restaurant industry or related culinary field.
- ServSafe or equivalent Food Safety Management Certification required.
- ACF Certification preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Preference will be given to those individuals that have teaching experience.
- Familiar with word processing, email, operation of a Windows-based personal computer, and POS System.
- Demonstrate ability to work with individuals of all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Spanish speaking proficiency desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
- Risks found in the typical kitchen setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of kitchen equipment & cleaning chemicals, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, work will be performed at the main campus and on occasion, at varies locations in the community for catering or food truck events. This position requires the incumbent to travel between the main campus and catering/food truck events.
- The Culinary Arts Program hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Hours subject to change). The incumbent will be required to work limited evening or early morning work for catered/food truck events outside of these hours.
- Consistent attendance is essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of the role and maintaining a productive work environment.

Working Hours: Monday through Thursday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
