Position: Culinary Coordinator, Full Time

Location: District Wide

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30 am until 2:30 pm (very infrequent evenings may be required for catering events)

Rate of Pay: $27.54/hr – Full Benefits

Availability: July 24, 2023

Qualifications: Degree in Culinary Studies, Serv-Safe Certification and prior Food Service experience required.

Job Summary: Teaching cooking/food prep skills in the District. Training all food service employees on culinary techniques to improve end products. Willing to take school foodservice to a higher level through innovation!

Teaching/ cooking in large batches for district-wide distribution as well as for individual schools. Interacting with students for taste testing and other events. Must be knowledgeable in inventory control procedures, record keeping, sanitation requirements, safety precautions, care and use of food service equipment, cashiering skills, ordering, portion control and production records so that these areas can be properly supervised and monitored. Fill in as necessary for absent food service workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on culinary training and coaching for all current Child Nutrition Staff and Head Cooks district-wide, teaching the preparation of foods with flair while following all the guidelines/ recipes /ingredients. Foods need to look and taste contemporary and attract the students.
  • Work with the Food Service Director for continual improvements, new menu items and any special meals offered.
  • Comply with operational fundamentals such as managing waste.
  • Test recipes and techniques for food preparation and presentation to ensure quality control
  • Work with newly hired employees to provide onsite job training
  • Will be used as a substitute food service worker at times (only when employees are out) and will need to be able to step-in to many different spots and prepare items as necessary while also teaching, evaluating and making suggestions to others to decrease time spent on tasks and improve quality.
  • Monitor and retrain managers and staff in production, use and care of equipment as needed.
  • Ensure all Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements and standard operating procedures are up to date and enforced.
  • Work with Food Service Director to develop, taste, and modify standardized recipes using USDA foods.
  • Work with school staff, teachers, parents, and physicians to plan and prepare menus for children with special nutrition needs.
  • Responsible for insuring the quality and attractive appearance of food being offered to staff and students, degree of doneness, food temperatures for holding, handling and serving, standardized recipes, potion control, color, taste and smell of all food products.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, storage and serving areas and equipment. Must ensure gloves and hair coverings are worn during all food preparation and handling operations.
  • Responsible for ensuring safety precautions are utilized in the kitchen and serving areas and the safe operation of all equipment in the food service facility.
  • Participating in inventories, inventory control, ordering, and record keeping
  • Organize, plan and participate in catering events
  • Make special guest appearances utilizing exhibition style cooking for students and staff
  • Interact with students via taste testings and other events.
  • Prepare meals for School Board meetings and other district events
  • Other duties as assigned
