Why does the job exist?

This position exists to support the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part B, State Performance Plan Indicator 17 which, for the State of New Mexico, is a K-3 math and reading initiative aimed at improving literacy outcomes for students with disabilities who attend high risk schools, statewide.

How does it get done?

Become a subject matter expert in State Performance Plan Indicator 17. Develop and deliver curriculum based professional development to adult learners. Provide technical assistance regarding student progress, curriculum design and development, and Indicator 17 requirements. Conduct on-line and site visits to review data, conduct presentations and provide technical assistance. Draft site visit reports. Is a member of the Indicator 17 team and a contributor to annual federal reports.

Students with Disabilities, Principals, School staff, District Administrators, Contractors, Special Education Division, PED Senior Team.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will have experience designing curriculum to enhance the reading literacy outcomes for students with disabilities; have a background in developing and delivering professional development for adult learners, have experience in reading literacy curriculum development and implementation, have classroom teacher experience, have a Special Education license and have experience in constructing data outcomes for federal reporting requirements.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
