The Building Services Department is seeking (1) Custodian Foreperson to join the already excellent team taking the Building Services Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Supervises the Custodial services of university buildings and facilities.
Examples of Duties:
- Covers cleaning duties for absent co-workers.
- Assists the satellite campuses with maintaining standards with changing technology and guidelines.
- Directly supervises the work assignments for 25 or more subordinates.
- Provides training for subordinates in methods and procedures as needed.
- Inspect facilities and furnishings for needed cleaning/ repair. Inspect subordinates’ work regarding methods, and make corrections as needed. Directs room set-up for events.
- Respond to custodial emergencies as needed.
- Inventories custodial equipment and supplies and prepares orders as needed.
- Will identify and notify the Manager of the training needed. Evaluate performance and recommends corrective actions.
- Provides mentoring to subordinate supervisors who desire advancement.
- Prepares reports on work performed by workgroup, employee attendance, safety, personnel issues, etc. Reports equipment issues to expedite repairs.
- Attends training to improve skills and grow into the position. Uses office technology to increase effectiveness.
- Serves as shift coordinator, noting attendance as employees arrive for work, reporting absences and lateness, and adjusting work assignments as needed to ensure that cleaning assignments are covered. Maintains key needs of the shift and issues keys to employees.
**Employees will use cleaning chemicals daily and will sometimes work around potentially dangerous materials in certain laboratories.**

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience in an institutional, industrial, or commercial setting, including two years of supervisory or lead worker experience.
- A valid Georgia driver’s license
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience training custodial employees in work method
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- At least 3 years experience in an institutional, industrial, or commercial setting, with at least one year of that being in a supervisory position
- Must have the ability to perform manual labor
- Knowledge of proper custodial services practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Georgia State University (GSU) campus buildings, facilities, and custodial requirements or needs.
- Knowledge of operating and using equipment, tools, and supplies used in building maintenance.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when required (approximately 30 – 50 lbs.).
- Ability to supervise others.
- Ability to pass a criminal background investigation
