Job Summary

Oversees custodial night crew activities and participates in the cleaning and maintenance of public buildings and structures; assures facilities are maintained in a clean and safe manner. Responsible for managing, scheduling and inspecting the work of the night custodial team. As a working supervisor this manager will spend approximately half of every shift assisting in custodial duties. Responsible for oversight of work performed by contracted custodial services; ensures cleaning supplies are adequately stocked. The team leader reports directly to and receives direction from the Assistant Director of General Services; obtains scheduling of fairgrounds events from the Fairgrounds Manager to coordinate event set-up and tear-down duties; collaborates with the Fairgrounds Manager, Fairgrounds Maintenance Team Leaders, and others as necessary to coordinate any special needs and requirements of the evening custodial crew. This position requires a work schedule of Tuesday – Saturday, 3:30 pm -12 am.

Trains and orients employees in the safe performance of duties and operation of equipment during the night shift.

Supervises the work of the evening custodial crew. Creates and manages work schedules ensuring sufficient coverage for all buildings and events; assigns work; monitors work quality; conducts performance feedback and employee evaluations.

Coordinates set-ups with the Fairground Manager.

Inspects the work of and spot checks the contracted custodians that clean the county facilities not cleaned by LPC staff.

Provides nightly reports of work completed and any discrepancies found.

Secures buildings; locking all doors at close of business; checks all windows, lights, and entire building to ensure security.

Monitors inventory of supplies and recommends reorders as necessary.

Dusts chairs, tables, shelves, and other furniture and equipment.

Washes windows, walls, wood work, and venetian blinds.

Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; replaces toilet paper and paper towels.

Vacuums, sweeps, and mops and strips/buffs floors.

Places hazard signs to warn public of slick or wet floors.

Collects and disposes of refuse.

Cleans and polishes furniture, brass, and other metal and wood work.

Cleans sidewalks and outside areas of debris or snow and ice. Applies ice melting substances.

Occasionally operates arena maintenance and other equipment such as tractors or skid steer loaders.

Replaces light bulbs.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED; and,

Three to four years of progressively responsible related experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience; or

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License.

Background security clearance for County facilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Cleaning materials, methods, equipment and procedures.

Basic maintenance and routine repair techniques for equipment utilized in the performance of the essential functions of the job.

Principles and practice of safe work procedures utilized in the performance of facility maintenance activities.

Knowledge and familiarity with the safe use of related chemicals.

Standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals.

Computer applications related to the work; basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Office and Excel.

Skill in:

Using mathematics.

Planning, organizing, assigning, directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of staff.

Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

Motivating staff and providing for their training and professional development.

Ability to:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.

Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Lift at least 50 pounds repetitively.

Hear and understand commands and safety alarms.

Climb stairs and operate equipment.
