Position Summary
The custodian I completes sanitation of restrooms, showers and locker facilities and replenishes supplies. The custodian I sweeps, mops, or vacuums floor surfaces and removes trash from all assigned areas. The custodian I also cleans chalk boards, walls and other items as required, cleans, polishes and moves furniture and equipment for special events when needed, and meets with customers for feedback on work performed. The custodian I may lock and unlock assigned buildings and secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights. This person cleans, polishes and stores equipment after use and turns in work order requests on a daily basis to the custodial manager.
Work Schedule: Weekly schedule will vary and will include working on weekends and holidays – Must be available to work any shift required. Overtime is required weekly in May through August.
This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency.
The ideal candidate has experience working in a team environment. This person should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks.
Hourly Hiring Range: $15.00 to $15.50, contingent upon qualifications and experience.

- Skills Required:
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Must be able to speak and understand basic English
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with others
- Ability to follow directions
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds several times each day.
- Requires walking or standing up to eight hours per day.
- Other physical requirements of the job include the ability to bend/crouch/or kneel, lift, see, reach, climb, and balance
Essential Functions
- Cleans showers, restroom floors, lavatories, fixtures, kitchenettes, public spaces, offices, laboratories, etc.
Replenishes paper supplies - Vacuums, sweeps, dusts and mops floors
- Cleans and polishes furniture, glass, doors, mirrors, walls and other surfaces
- Removes trash
- Assists with summer clean out of colleges and summer housing preparation of guests rooms
- Cleans college public areas, such as kitchenettes, laundry facilities, floor lounges and college offices
- Identifies and reports needed repairs
- Assists other custodians with work as needed
- Performs all other duties assigned
Workplace Requirements
Work environment: Primarily an indoor work environment in a variety of university settings, which may include offices, food serveries, and residential facilities. May be exposed to temperature extremes in facilities that are not climate controlled
Work hazards include exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals. Some work may occur at heightened elevations on ladders or scaffolding, or in wet areas.
