Position Summary
The custodian II will provide routine housekeeping duties in an assigned area. The custodian II is responsible for maintenance of flooring throughout the residential colleges and the college master houses including buffing, stripping, and sealing of hard surfaces and shampooing of carpets. The custodian II also assists with movement of furniture and minor maintenance assignments. This individual may lock and unlock assigned buildings and secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, reports any unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights. The custodian II- Residential College and College Magister Houses submits work orders to the department and provides daily updates to the supervisor.
Work Schedule: Weekly schedule will vary and will include working on weekends and holidays – Must be available to work any shift required. Overtime is required weekly in May through August.
This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency.
The ideal candidate has experience working in a team environment. This person should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks.
Hourly Hiring Range: $15.50 to $16.00, contingent upon qualifications and experience.
Requirements
- No formal education
- One year related floor work training
- Skills Required
- Must be able to speak, read, and write basic English
- Must be proficient in the use of large commercial buffers
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with others
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds several times each day.
- Requires walking or standing up to eight hours per day.
- Other physical requirements of the job include the ability to bend/crouch/or kneel, lift, see, reach, climb, and balance
Essential Functions
- Strips, scrubs, buffs floors
- Seals, waxes, and applies finishes
- Shampoos and extract carpets
- Pressure washes surfaces
- Removes heavy trash
- Performs special assignments in relation to custodial services
- Washes exterior windows, cloisters and entrances
- Cleans showers, restroom floors, lavatories, fixtures, kitchenettes, public spaces, offices, laboratories, etc.
- Replenishes paper supplies
- Vacuums, sweeps, dusts and mops floors
- Cleans and polishes furniture, glass, doors, mirrors, walls, and other surfaces
- Removes trash
- Identifies and reports needed repairs
- Assists other custodians with work as needed
- Performs all other duties assigned
Workplace Requirements
Work environment: Primarily an indoor work environment in a variety of university settings, which may include offices, food serveries, and residential facilities. May be exposed to temperature extremes in facilities that are not climate controlled
Work hazards include exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals. Some work may occur at heightened elevations on ladders or scaffolding, or in wet areas.
