The Facilities Management Division plays a critical role in keeping Department Facilities operating safe for staff and visitors as it oversees the maintenance for over 250 Department Facilities Citywide. FMD manages multiple facility renovations that support Department initiatives and unit relocations. FMD is comprised of uniform, civilian trades, professional and administrative staff.
The Custodian III supervises a number of cleaners, performing such tasks as sweeping, dusting, mopping, polishing, waxing, gathering and disposing of refuse; cleaning and removing snow from walks; maintaining lawns and shrubs; Inspects the building and grounds to note general condition and necessity for repairs; checks work performance, assures the proper use, cleanliness and storage of tools; Trains personnel in safe work methods and use of equipment and materials; prepares work schedules; investigates and adjusts complaints about service and personnel.
Minimum Qual Requirements
Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the “Qualification Requirements” above.
To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the “Qualification Requirements” above.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
