Organization Description

Horizons for Homeless Children (Horizons) is a local non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children in Massachusetts and helping their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. To support our mission, we also advocate on behalf of young children, train educators and human services providers, and conduct research on the impact of early education on homeless children.

Summary of Position

We are seeking a Development Operations Assistant. The successful candidate will be curious, driven, organized, and a firm believer in the importance of quality data and systems management. The Development Operations Assistant will report to the Director of Development Operations and will work closely with them and the Managing Director of Development to support all in-house development department functions including, but not limited to: gift entry, acknowledgments, database integrity, and department mailings. The Development Operations Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining systems that ensure the successful and effective implementation of the department’s annual development plan.

Where and when you’ll work

This is a flexible, hourly part-time position where you’ll work 20 hours a week. You can expect to work a hybrid schedule, meaning a blend of remote and in-person as needed, between Monday and Friday, typically between 8 am and 6 pm. Your actual schedule will be set collaboratively between you and your manager based on organizational need and your availability. There may be occasional evening or weekend events with advanced planning and notice. Our office space is located at Edgerley Family Horizons Center at 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Process all philanthropic contributions with consideration to timeliness, efficiency, and accuracy of both gift coding and donor data.
  • Accurately capture donor intent in gifts by maintaining a thorough understanding of all appeals, funds, and gift types including multi-year and annual pledges; matching, tribute, and stock gifts; and restricted funds.
  • Partner with our Finance team to coordinate monthly revenue reconciliation.
  • Generate and mail timely and accurate acknowledgment letters/tax receipts and quarterly open pledge reminder notifications.
  • Create, edit, and maintain accurate records in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Process NCOA address updates from returned mail and help with other data integrity projects as needed.
  • Assist the Development team with event help, including tracking RSVPs, registration, setup, and post-event gift processing.
  • Other administrative duties pertaining to the development department and/or organization as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant combination of experience and training.
  • Microsoft Office experience, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Raiser’s Edge experience is strongly preferred, although other CRM/database experiences such as Salesforce or HubSpot will be considered. Omatic, Import-o-matic, and event management software experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple data entry processes that are occasionally repetitive, determine priorities, and focus on building excellent data resources for a fast-paced nonprofit.
  • Critically detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy regarding gift and data entry, while adhering to deadlines. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions and complex policies and procedures.
  • A knack for process improvement as technologies advance.
  • Perform all functions with a strong sense of confidentiality.
  • Ability to take responsibility, to work well both as a team member and independently.
  • Strong communication skills.

Starting hourly range, compensation, and benefits

$24.00 – 26.00 per hour is the starting hourly range for our Coordinator level roles. We offer a 4% premium uplift for Bilingual English/Spanish fluency. Your starting hourly rate will fall within that range depending on your competencies, experience, skillset, and language capacity.
