We are recruiting for a Customer Service Assistant in the Office of Community Treatment Services. Duties include, but are not limited to:
In Central Office, operates multi-line telephone equipment to serve as a point of entry to the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) providing information in response to inquiries, requests and/or complaints from persons with a mental health, addiction or co-occurring mental health and substance used disorder, family members, or general public about OhioMHAS services and supports to promote advocacy, independence and recovery for Ohioans with mental health and addiction behavioral health issues:
- Answers incoming telephone calls on the department’s Toll-free bridge line, assesses nature of calls, connects caller to needed mental health and addiction resources in the caller’s area, statewide resources, and/or help lines, explains referral process, consumer rights and responsibilities, and other recovery resources
- Notifies supervisor of any challenging calls or situations.
- Operates personal computer and/or computer terminal to enter, update, correct, delete or send data, retrieve/look-up data to verify/give out information or give status of file/case
- register customers, log and track calls, and/or other information; greets and/or directs visitors
- operates photocopier to obtain copies for dis-semination and/or for files
- Assists in providing training to new customer service assistants and/or cross training to customer service assistants from other work units (e.g., lets employee listen in calls and shadow performance of other tasks to learn how to handle them and apply appropriate laws, rules, legal interpretations, policies and/or procedures applicable to each situation).

Qualifications
3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in office practices & procedures; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations or customer service to include techniques for dealing with difficult people; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing, keyboarding, data entry or word processing; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Qualifications for Employment noted above.
Preferred Qualification: Ohio Certified Peer Certification or personal experience with lived experience with mental health and/or substance use disorders
Note: in the telecommunications section, within the Ohio Department of Public Safety, employees will automatically be reassigned to the Customer Services Assistant 2, 64432 classification after serving 6 months as a Customer Service Assistant 1, 64431.
