About the position
Provide quality customer service by greeting and assisting visitors, answering phones, processing transactions for facility rentals and activity registration, and assisting internal and external customers with various requests.
This position is located at The Rec Center customer service counter, The Rec Center skate shop, the ROC warming house and Westwood Hills Nature Center front desk.
Position is part-time and non-benefit earning, working less than 20 hours per week on average. Hours vary and include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide friendly, efficient and effective customer service, through in person, email and telephone contact, in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Emphasize a customer-friendly, helpful approach in serving callers, guests and staff.
- Open and close assigned location as scheduled.
- Maintain a clean, pleasant and professional environment.
- Be familiar with all activities and services provided by the department.
- Communicate schedule changes, events or issues that occurred with supervisor in a timely manner.
2. Provide support for programs, activities, and events.
- Provide information and answer inquiries as needed.
- Accept and process membership passes, activity registrations, and facility rental applications accurately in the applicable database.
- Work with other staff as needed for facility or maintenance needs.
3. Accurately operate Point of Sale.
- Prepare cash and Point of Sale computer for shift.
- Act as cashier for registration fees, user fees, facility rental fees and point of sale items.
- Close out register at end of shift and prepare daily deposit by comparing revenue received to cash journal.
4. Provide service at The Rec Center Skate Shop and as ROC Warming House Attendant
- Open skate shop / warming house and prepare for shift, securing area at end of shift.
- Keep area clean and organized.
- Distribute rental skates and care for when returned during public skating and ice skating lessons.
- Supervise participants as needed to ensure public skating rules are enforced.
5. Provide basic clerical support including filing, copying, data entry, and other general office
functions, and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous customer service experience
- Experience handling cash or credit card payments
- Computer experience with Microsoft Office and Web-based applications
- Ability to understand and speak English clearly
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from all cultures and backgrounds
- Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city’s strategic objectives for racial equity
- Ability to handle complaints and concerns of internal and external customers in a tactful and respectful manner
- Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with staff and the general public
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and provide customer service in an professional manner
- Available to work weekday evenings and weekends
- Ability to solve problems that may arise and work in a detailed manner
Desired Qualifications
- One or more years related experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to speak or understand other languages, especially Spanish, Russian, or Somali
- Experience interacting with multicultural populations
