Summary
Responsible for all electrical maintenance of the plant by troubleshooting, testing, completing maintenance, calibration, and proper operation of all electrical systems at the Generation Facility.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
- Troubleshoots, inspects, tests, maintains, repairs, cleans and calibrates instrumentation and solid state and microprocessor-based control equipment including plant communications equipment, programmable controllers, distributive control systems, generator excitation equipment, battery chargers, and semi-conductor devices.
- Troubleshoots, inspects, tests, maintains, repairs, and cleans electrical equipment including: circuit breakers, motor operated valves, AC&DC motors and controllers, switches, solenoid valves, and rectifiers.
- Utilizes a wide range of test equipment, including recorders, computers, control and tuning modules, PC based software analyzer programs, oscilloscopes, data analyzers, logic test equipment, analog and digital multi-meters and other test equipment, while performing tests to identify problems and to maintain and calibrate equipment to performance standards.
- Makes regular inspection rounds of plant electrical equipment.
- Connects, disconnects, and tags out equipment and circuits for test or repair and safety of personnel and equipment.
- Assists in developing detailed preventive and predictive maintenance procedures for plant electrical control equipment.
- Installs, builds, or modifies plant electrical equipment as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Pulls cable and installs and bends conduit.
- Performs inspections in compliance with the national electrical code.
- Performs calibration of plant emissions monitoring equipment.
- Performs basic machine tool operations using the drill press, grinder, and lathe.
- Utilizes and oxy-acetylene torch for burning and heating.
- Performs soldering on electronic components.
- Performs rigging and some basic mechanical repairs.
- Maintains shop and storage areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Maintains the safe and efficient use of materials, tools, and test equipment.
- Maintains responsibility for personal safety and all others working in the vicinity.
- Determines and installs wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices in the size, type, and arrangement necessary for proper and safe operation of electrical systems, circuits, and equipment.
- Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
- Complies with plant policy and procedures, in particular those involving personnel and equipment safety.
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance.
Additional Duties:
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Cleans Plant, Shop, and other work areas.
- Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Coordinates activities of contractor employees involved in maintenance and repair of plant Electrical equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in Electric Generating Facilities or General Industry Electrical Maintenance Services.

- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

- Knowledge of AC/DC Circuits, Machines, Electronic theory and components.
- Knowledge of proper High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage grounding throughout the facility.
- Thorough knowledge of High Voltage in respect to coordinating / supervising a contractor work force
- Thorough knowledge of plant safety procedures.
- Ability to productively work independently and as an overall integral team member.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of Plant LOTO system, (Lock-out – Tag-out).
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Ability to stay current with changing technologies.
Preferences:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Prior Five years related experience
- Strong knowledge in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to work overtime when requested
