Job Summary
Hiring now for Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Lyrical!
Under general direction of the Recreation Manager, the Dance Instructor is responsible for planning, performing, and implementing beginning through advanced dance skills and instructions.
This position is a Part-time, with hours mainly on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. May be occasional, additional hours not to exceed 19 hours per week.
This is an at-will position.
Qualifications/Education
- Minimum 16 years old with at least 1 year experience in dance (Tap, Jazz and Ballet) etc.,
- High School Diploma or GED and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience related field required.
- Knowledge of objectives and ideals of dance elements desired.
- Must have good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Must be CPR and AED certified and/or within six (6) months of hiring (District provided).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Research and/or recommends new ideas, techniques for curriculum enhancement to Recreation Manager.
- Select music and prepare choreography for recital pieces and/or story production if applicable to be approved by Recreation Manager.
- Provide a fun, encouraging, safe and disciplined atmosphere relationship with students and parents.
- Communicate, distribute course information to students and/or parents at the beginning of each session.
- Communicate requested information to Recreation Manager in a timely manner.
- Program Evaluation performance with recommendations for progression to parents.
- Tracking students’ attendance including late arrivals, early departures, non-registered participants.Inform Recreation Manager of continual participants absences and non-registered students.
- Communicate concerns, including student behavior/attendance, to Recreation Manager in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate and support Dance Academy policies.
- Employee will follow district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures including the prompt reporting of participant and staff accidents/incidents.
- Will maintain the work area/room neat, clean and orderly.
- Employee must perform all other duties as assigned and/or needed.
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee will be subject to modified/flexible work schedule and adaptable to newsituations during high volume.
- Employee must arrive at least five minutes before scheduled class time to be prepared when children arrive.
- Employee must remain at program until all children have been picked up by aguardian.
- Employee must cooperate with park district staff including registration, front counter and administration.
- Employee must notify the Recreation Manager immediately when cancelling aclass.
Cognitive Considerations
- Employee must possess the ability to read, write and organize materials.
- Employee must know where children are at alltimes.
- Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Employee must be able to make decisions objectively based on customer service and fiscal constraint.
- Employee is responsible for keeping organized records and reports.
- Attend instructor meetings.
Psychological Considerations
- Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Recreation Manager.
- Employee must have the ability to delegate work, where appropriate, in order to accomplish work most effectively.
- Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere, while promoting the Park District’s mission statement, vision and core values.
- Employee must have the ability to recognize priorities and meet deadlines.
Environmental & Physical Demands
- Employee must be able to be mobile/dance for 1-5 hours, stoop to the floor and height of children, and carry light items (20 lbs. or less).
- Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to rain and mud, hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, and noise.
- Employee may be exposed to children with communicable diseases and/or illnesses.
- Employee may perform duties which include, but are not limited to prolonged lifting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing for extended periods of time.
- Employee will be able to function under loud and stressful conditions.
Salary
Starting at $17.50/hour Non-Exempt, Non-IMRF
