The Engagement and Outreach team is a unit within OOD. The team leads the strategy and development of key volunteer leadership and engagement initiatives across the university. It works with units within OOD and across the university to identify volunteer opportunities, develop strategies for engagement, and manage the administration and development of cross-campus volunteer bodies. It works closely with university leadership, school and unit leaders, and external constituents to design and develop outreach efforts and programming that facilitate the delivery of key messaging and engagement around the Stanford Vision.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Engagement & Outreach, the Data Analysis Manager will lead enterprise-wide data management, analysis, and reporting for volunteer and engagement initiatives across the OOD Engagement and Outreach team. This individual will serve as a partner and leader in developing evidence-driven decision-making to support the Office of Development and Stanford External Relations’ outreach efforts, including projects designed in service to the university’s fundraising campaign.

In this role you will:

  • Pull complex data lists to help inform opportunities to engage emerging audiences across the lifespan of the university’s campaign. Clean and transform data as required to deliver actionable information. Identify new sources of data and methods to improve collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs, and tables) from data sources. Generate reports and present key findings, trends, and insights to internal stakeholders, senior leaders, and key volunteers. Use reports and analyses to identify challenges and recommend actions to resolve complex issues that often span unit and organizational boundaries.
  • Explore data from multiple angles, determine meaning behind the data, and recommend ways to apply the data.
  • Help communicate, convey, and visualize informed conclusions and recommendations across an organization’s leadership structure in a manner to “tell the story” behind the data and influence how organization approaches the challenge.
  • May delineate the information to be gathered, collect data at the project inception, prescribe how to structure the data, and specify the data warehousing structure for future access.
  • May need to collaborate with other organizations to gather data. Proactively seek and locate data, including outside benchmarks or comparative data, to support or refute proposed decisions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software. Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence and/or Salesforce Reporting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience querying, processing, analyzing, and reporting on large data sets.
  • Demonstrated skill transforming data using programming languages such as Python, R or SQL.
  • Ability to tell stories with data to present data clearly to non-technical audiences using data visualization software such as Tableau, Excel, SPSS, or similar software in conjunction with strong verbal ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question and to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.
  • Extensive experience in and strong passion for empirical research and answering hard questions with data.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to positively convey findings and influence senior leadership & faculty.

The expected pay range for this position is $87,000-$126,000 per annum.
