Official Position Description:

In Capital Programs work unit, under supervision & in training, uses personal computer to assist with a variety of planning activities involving Geographic Information Management Systems (GIMS) &/or Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) projects (e.g., collects, prepares, digitizes &/or geo-codes spatial data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) &/or CADD usable format); uses scanner/interface to scan documents (e.g., photographs, engineering drawings, project plans, maps); becomes familiar with personal computer-based & mainframe CADD systems, MicroStation & various software packages used by the District in collection of GIS data & the preparation of highway plans.

Participates in field reviews & project scoping. Performs pavement design; cost estimates; conducts traffic counts; collects & reviews field data; verifies sign & pavement marking locations; photographs sites of proposed projects; researches & analyzes accidents & traffic signal warrants. Assists with engineering studies & preliminary engineering.

Performs miscellaneous duties to facilitate operational efficiency of work unit (e.g., researches plans & records; assists with recordkeeping; maintains accurate data of work performed; organizes materials; compiles information; uses computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Word & Excel) to prepare reports; attends training as needed.

This is a temporary position involving various duties that will either supplement the student’s major field of study and/or provide experience that is useful addition to the student’s education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment.

Qualifications
Must currently be enrolled in a college or university and in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or above).
