Architects at AWS work to design resilient, cost effective DC facilities. We are responsible for achieving a world-class uptime for our customers and drive to develop a fleet of buildings emphasizing security, safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, while finding new ways to meet AWS’s growing customer demand. As a DC Sustainability Architect at AWS, you will lead Architectural designs for Amazon DCs in our Americas Region and impact other projects around the world with an emphasis on achieving Amazon’s carbon goals. As a DC Sustainability Architect, you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a sustainability subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large-scale implementation issues, and build a strong understanding of sustainable architectural design requirements.
As a DC Sustainability Architect, you will be responsible for developing strategies, implementing initiatives, and tracking performance metrics for reduced carbon emissions and improved sustainability of our buildings and business operations in support of Amazon’s goals.
Key job responsibilities
• Support new and existing business teams with their progress toward Amazon’s Climate Pledge as it relates to building design.
• Work with diverse stakeholders to coordinate, and implement strategies to reduce, monitor, and optimize Amazon’s carbon footprint in buildings.
• Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for building-related sustainability solutions.
• Develop and implement carbon reduction and sustainable building strategies from concept through operations.
• Maintenance of Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for architectural elements.
• Manage our external design consultants through the design and construction process.
• Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers.
• Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
• Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
• Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.
• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• NCARB recognized Architecture license.
• 10+ years of commercial / industrial design experience with demonstrated experience in sustainable, high-performance buildings.
• 3+ years of mission critical facilities design experience.
• Accredited Professional certification from LEED, WELL, Living Building, or other relevant programs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• NAAB accredited degree in Architecture.
• Solid working proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.
• Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards including IBC, IFC, and NFPA.
• Vendor and consultant management skills.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to travel internationally.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
