Data Engineer/Architect

Responsibilities

Peraton is currently seeking a Data Engineer/Architect with a data engineering or computer science background to provide support to a Department of Defense research laboratory.

Location: Monterey, CA

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Construct and maintain the necessary pipelines present and future use to provide data records and fields in conjunction with all necessary associated attributes to support comprehensive data sets for users at all levels of the accession enterprise.
  • Identify data processes that will allow creation of data structures in the designated cloud platform. Use data ETL process code to identify data sources, computational transformation, etc. that are necessary to recreate the processes on the cloud platform creating as much independence from the legacy systems as possible.
  • Construct validation and verification process to compare new data constructs to mirror results that are captured authoritatively by the current/legacy reporting systems.
  • Expand the integration of additional fields and data sources as they are identified, these may be new fields added to the legacy systems or in emerging systems that must be mirrored in the new ontology to allow for accurate program assessment and reporting.
  • Develop data model structures for the data visualization platforms that allow for standardized reporting, tracking of the recruiting processes, and more rigorous or strategic-level analysis use cases.
  • Design and develop business intelligence tools using the designated BI platform (currently PowerBI and Vantage) to meet reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • BS 12-15, MS 10-13. Phd 10+
  • Demonstrated fluency using Python/Pyspark
  • Ability to function in an agile DevOps environment.
  • Experience with open-source code software-development.
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in large, complex data projects requiring a knowledge of theoretical data structures and practical, hands-on experience implementing continuous delivery data pipelines. May consider an Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ expeirence in lieu of a MS degree. May also consider specialized elective coursework in big data management, computational data science, or other highly technical, code-oriented data work in lieu of experience requirements on a case-by-case basis.
  • Experience using version control repositories; Java experience.
  • Familiarity with the Army Vantage application “Code Repositories”.
  • Experience writing automated production data pipelines in the cloud.
  • Functional knowledge of Army recruiting data and how to manipulate it into information.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.

Target Salary Range

$146,000 – $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
