Data Operations Technical Lead – Space Program

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Data Operations Technical Lead to join our team based in Greenbelt, MD to support our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract (SENSE). This position will allow for primarily telework, with travel to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and other NASA locations as needed, and will require a person who is within a commutable distance locally.

As prime contractor on the SENSE contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks. In this position, you will become part of NASA’s return to the moon, support new earth and space science missions, and launch vehicles. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements.

You will work with the NASA Space Geodesy Network (NSGN) program. The NSGN program provides Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainment services for NSGN, which includes Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) systems. You will be responsible for overseeing NSGN data operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring overall NSGN data operations performance, including ensuring system availability for receiving, processing, and delivering data and reports.
  • Ensuring operations and sustainment of the SLR Data Operations Center (SLR DOC).
  • Reporting on NSGN data operations progress and issues.
  • Leading a small operations team in issue resolution and problem solving.
  • Leading and contributing to preparation for technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Developing and executing test plans for software system verification and acceptance.
  • Participating in the established NSGN Configuration Management process.
  • Participating in NSGN team meetings and contributing to the overall operations, maintenance, and sustainment of the network of SLR and VLBI stations.
  • Coordination with the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) and contributing to ILRS efforts that involve NASA SLR participation.
  • Supporting development and integration of new Space Geodesy stations into the existing data operations system for the NSGN.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field and 10+ years of related experience, or a MS degree in a technical or business field and 8+ years of experience; without a degree, 14+ years of related experience may be considered.
  • Experience in managing and overseeing the work of others
  • Experience with operations, maintenance, and sustainment projects
  • Experience with data acquisition, processing, storage, and transfer using Linux OS platforms
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance, which requires a U.S. Citizen, if required by the program

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with SLR and/or VLBI data processing.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of IT hardware, software, and networking concepts. (e.g.,Virtual Machines, Linux/Windows based platforms, LANs)
  • Familiarity with configuration management processes and tools. (e.g., GIT, Subversion)
  • Experience writing and executing software test plans
  • Experience with data analysis. (e.g., Matlab, Excel, SAS)
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and communication skills
  • An active Secret clearance

Target Salary Range

$104,000 – $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
