Database Administrator I

This role performs routine to moderately complex (journey level) database analysis, design, and developmental work. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Database Administrator II

This role performs complex (journey level) database analysis, design, and developmental work. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Work involves coordinating the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems; evaluating and reviewing database architecture; and maintaining data integrity. Experience and demonstrated competency with Data Warehousing concepts, tools, and methodologies is required. Designs and implements reliable, reusable, and robust ETL solutions that deliver data integrity, accurate data mapping and cleansing.

What We Do

The ideal candidate will have the ability to highlight their strengths in the following functions:
• Performs analysis and maintenance of data and at times the database structures of Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Consult and provide professional contributions on acquisition of database software and resources.
• Establishes and implements necessary application and database level security standards and controls.
• Plans, coordinates, and supports maintenance, patching, and upgrades to DIR’s database environment; verifies and performs regression testing as necessary.
• Provide provisioning support to database reporting using Microsoft PowerBI and SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence platforms.
• Monitor daily ETL processes and be able to triage when irregularities are discovered. This can involve investigating and analyzing SSIS packages, batch files, python & .net scripts.
• Performs routine data fixes, database administration and higher-level troubleshooting for some in-house applications, and anything interacting with the agencies databases.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Computer Science or other related degree.
• Additional work-related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience and Training Required
• Experience with SQL coding language
• Experience in computer systems, data analysis, and database development/maintenance work

Experience and Training Preferred
• ETL Experience: Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services and SAP Business Objects Data Services
• SQL Server and Oracle Database
• Web Services implementations on various platforms
• Reporting Tools: SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence & Data Services, Power BI, Tableau

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Working knowledge of information resources project management principles, best practices, and tools; ability to effectively manage complex information technology projects; ability to conduct effective, thorough review of project requirements and deliverables; ability to conduct short and long-range project planning studies.
• Thorough and current knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of computer operations of information resources technology that includes hardware, packaged software implementation, software development, data communications, local and wide area networks management; knowledge of the security limitations and capabilities of computer systems; includes ability to research, evaluate and interpret material and create effective narratives on IT issues and standards.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer databases, programming, and systems design; computer database application systems; data processing flowcharting techniques; database structures and theories; current database technologies; and data analysis, evaluation, and testing techniques.
• Skills in complex problem solving and critical thinking.
• Ability to identify and define users’ functional and technical database needs, to conduct shortrange and long-range project planning studies, to develop reports, and to communicate effectively.
• Skill and ability to work collaboratively in finding solutions for or to deal proactively with work-related problems; ability to identify and implement best practices; ability to recognize potential and existing problems, identify courses of action and apply contingency plans to solve problems as a project manager and in a team environment.
• Should have both strong Database and Business Analytic skills.
• Skill in complex problem solving, and critical thinking in the operation of computers and applicable software.
• Demonstrated ability to work on concurrent tasks while effectively prioritizing and coordinating work assignments.
• Ability to serve internal agency customers, including executive staff, by focusing effort on meeting their needs, understanding their concerns, and effectively resolving issues; ability to identify and define user task needs.
