Summary

The Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy is looking for a Marketing Communications Specialist that will help amplify and extend its DEI efforts and initiatives, both for the School and its Center for Racial Justice, and enhance engagement with our audiences through a variety of communications channels and events.

You will be part of the Communications & Outreach team and report directly to the Senior Communications & Outreach Strategist, with additional guidance from the Associate Director of the Center for Racial Justice. You will provide creativity and leadership by creating promotional assets, designing and implementing school-wide communications, managing event coordination, and tracking data on communications activities.

Responsibilities*

  • Manage content related to DEI and racial justice work at the Ford School, in collaboration with others in the Communications & Outreach team. This includes planning, researching, writing and editing content for news items, events, social media, websites, email campaigns, newsletters, student or faculty profiles, short video clips, and other projects as assigned. Ensure brand standards and accessibility across platforms and rapid response to inquiries
  • Develop content and distribute DEI and Center for Racial Justice e-newsletters for internal and external audiences using Mailchimp
  • Works closely with the communications team to manage social media assets, assures brand standards, and is responsible for maintaining a content calendar and meeting publication deadlines
  • Contribute to the planning, management and execution of Ford School events and programming, (in-person, hybrid, and virtual) related to the Center for Racial Justice and DEI. This includes setting up the backend of online/hybrid events, moderating audience participation for livestreamed events, promoting events, creating materials, and coordinating photography and videography.
  • Work with Student and Academic Services to coordinate DEI communications with student organizations to help amplify main opportunities and messages among students
  • Develop and manage graphic designs for communications and events
  • Draft and coordinate content and event updates on the Ford School website related to DEI and on the Center for Racial Justice website
  • Find internal and external opportunities to amplify faculty research and policy engagement in the DEI and racial justice space.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of professional experience writing, designing marketing materials and copy editing, with demonstrated commitment to attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience adapting messages for multiple media platforms (e.g. websites, social media, newsletters)
  • Experience working with content management and email systems (e.g. Mailchimp), graphic design software (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite), and current digital marketing technologies.
  • A passion for social justice and racial justice issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage time to meet deadlines.
