Description
To perform a variety of cashiering duties in support of the District functions such as the Bookstore, Food Service, The Market, and Box Office; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Approves checks, makes refunds and makes change in support of assigned area of responsibility; disseminates pertinent information or product to customer or vendor.
- Operate a point-of-sale cash register; reconcile cash drawer/cash register; balance daily receipts to cash register including cash, check, charge cards and refunds; prepare daily summary of sales.
- Respond to questions and inquiries from the general public, students and faculty regarding assigned area of responsibility; handle customer concerns and complaints; issue refunds as appropriate.
- Provide assistance as needed in the daily operations of the assigned program; answer and respond to questions from students, staff and the community.
- May assist to process payments related to vendors and customers either manually or electronically using booth tracker or point-of sale software.
- Maintain a variety of files and records.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Methods and techniques of cashiering.
- Basic math skills.
- Principles and procedures of customer service.
- Basic principles and procedures of accounting.
- Standard office procedures, methods and equipment.
Ability to:
- Accurately perform cashiering functions including but not limited to counting cash, making change and accepting checks.
- Follow District money handling policies and procedures.
- Work a flexible schedule on the weekends, as needed
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public, faculty and students.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students, staff and the community.
- Sit for prolonged periods of time; manual dexterity for fine manipulation.

Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent.
