Deputy Chief of Staff

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation’s largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs and Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff will support the overall functioning of the Commissioner’s Office.

The responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Coordinate across all Bureaus on priority projects for the Commissioner’s Office.
• Support the Chief of Staff as liaison with City Hall and external partners.
• Confer with the Chief of Staff and assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the efficient and effective functioning of the Department.
• Work closely and collaboratively with the Chief of Staff and Commissioner’s executive team to effectively promote the Commissioner’s priorities to critical stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes.
• Mange the compilation and provision of multiple time-sensitive public and confidential reports.
• Prepares reports, special correspondence and memoranda on both technical and administrative matters for the Chief of Staff and Commissioner.
• Attends conferences with or in place of the Chief of Staff.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. Graduation from an accredited college with a Baccalaureate degree plus specialized training in public management and evaluation.

Preferred Skills
• MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.
• Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, analytical, research, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Outstanding communication and writing skills.
• Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to juggle various priorities and deliver under strict deadlines.
