DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Executive Center Director, the Deputy Director AEC – Facilities & Operations is responsible for all operational and facilities staff across the entire Alliant Energy Center (AEC). Plan, schedule and manage all buildings, grounds and physical plant maintenance activities at the AEC, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling repair and installations. Develop staffing levels for the efficient and timely set-up, presentation, and breakdown of events. Recommend and process equipment and machinery purchases. Assess and plan for all building and grounds maintenance needs. Oversee new construction to ensure that the needs and specifications are met. Perform activities involving budgeting, purchasing and human resources. Assimilate and disseminate information for presenting events in a proper and safe manner to customer and guest in compliance with contracts, policies, procedures and ordinances.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervise employees engaged in the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, machinery and equipment, and special events across the entire AEC. Ensure preventative maintenance work is accomplished on all machinery, equipment and major building systems on a regularly scheduled basis. Make estimates and requisitions materials and supplies required for maintenance. Test, evaluate and recommend the purchase of equipment for AEC operations. Respond to complaints and make sure corrective action is taken. Develop plans and specifications of capital outlay programs and purchases. Decide staffing levels, hiring, probation, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, adjustment of grievances and layoffs. Work directly with clients and lessees to understand their special needs. Work with managers and other personnel to enforce fire, safety and Wisconsin administrative codes.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a High School diploma and five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience at a multipurpose facility (stadium, arena, event center, etc.), or experience managing a high-population, multi-facility campus.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Must be available to work long and unusual hours, including evenings, weekend and holiday event coverage, and emergencies.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
May be active for part or entirety of shift (standing, walking, stooping, twisting, lifting, bending, pushing, reaching, climbing, crouching and crawling). Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance. On a daily basis, exposure to temperature variations or extremes, chemicals, odors, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, wetness, machinery and/or dust may cause discomfort but poses little risk of injury. On an infrequent basis, exposure to blood and/or body fluids.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Considerable knowledge of personnel management procedures, supervisory techniques and methods. Knowledge of management procedures and principles impacting event management and administration of multi-purpose public assembly facilities. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide exceptional customer service and coordinate simultaneous production of convention, trade show, entertainment, sporting and other events. Ability to prepare multi-million dollar labor and equipment budgets. Ability to advise, interpret and apply policies and procedures. Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment required for the maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings and other relevant issues. Knowledge of trades practices. Must work well with others, think critically and analytically, and successfully meet constantly changing deadlines. Ability to adapt to flexible organizational styles.

Bilingual Pay: Employees who work in bilingual designated positions receive an additional $2.00 per hour.
Undesirable Hours Premium Pay: Employees may receive undesirable hours pay of $2.00 for anytime worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m and for anytime on Saturday and/or Sunday. (not applicable with all employee groups).
Paid Parental Leave: Dane County also provides 12 weeks of paid parental leave for birth or adoption of a child.
Caregiver Leave: Dane County offers 80 hours of paid leave to care for an ill family member.
Telecommuting: Telecommuting allows employees to work remotely for all or part of their workweek. Dane County considers telecommuting to be a viable, flexible option when both the employee and the job are suited to such an arrangement. Dane County will permit telecommuting when it benefits the productivity of the employee and their department and if determined by employee’s department that telecommuting is not detrimental to either the County or the employee.
Student Loan Forgiveness: If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
WI Retirement System: Employees hired after 7-1-11 must be expected to work a minimum of 1200 hours annually to be enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System when hired.
