The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) and Division of Animal Resources (DAR) invites applicants to apply for an outstanding opportunity to join our Team as a Deputy Operations Manager. This management position within the Division of Animal Resources (DAR) will coordinate and facilitate multiple projects and areas within the Animal Care and Use program (ACUP), both on a scheduled basis and an impromptu basis as needs arise. Acts as the Deputy to the Assistant Director for Operations, collaborating on departmental processes and procedures and acting on behalf of the assistant director when he/she is out of the office. Acts as Liaison to the Principal Investigator (PI) and research staff to foster a good working relationship with the research community and facilitates/coordinates their animal care and use needs. Coordinates and manages Animal Health Monitoring and Quality Assurance/Quality Control Testing Program (QA/QC).
Typical Duties
Specific responsibilities include- Coordinate and manage the Animal Health Monitoring and the QA/QC Program and directly supervise the Animal Health Monitoring Technician. Conducts the Quality Control Program to verify proper functioning of the DAR and research lab equipment. Coordinates quality control checks of cage wash equipment functionality. Assists in management of vivarium staff related to work performance. Research Staff Liaison – fosters a good working relationship with PI and research staff by facilitating and coordinating their needs to the limits of our available resources.
Minimum Hiring Standards:
-Requires a thorough knowledge of animal husbandry and staff management.
-Requires knowledge of animals and their behavior when used in research.
-A bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, animal husbandry or another animal related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
-Significant experience in the field of animal research
– Exposure to a variety of research methods preferred.
