The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Design Manager to join our Bay Area Infrastructure engineering team with focus on Energy and R&D improvements. In this role, you will be asked to own and drive the full design and engineering efforts for construction and infrastructure development from concept to permits to build. This role requires you to be extremely detail oriented, an excellent communicator, identify and work through difficult barriers, and drive cross-functional teams to execute quickly at high quality in alignment with company policies.
Responsibilities
- Organize and manage construction design packages, design reviews, and deliverables to support all aspects of construction, including scope of work, kick-off, MDR, 30%, 60%, 90%, IFP, and IFC, and CA phase and close out
- Communicate effectively across various cross-functional teams within Tesla, including Construction, Facilities, Workplace, IT, EHS, Project Controls/Estimating, etc. to build relationships and ensure overall project alignment
- Manage customer/end user requests and fundamentally understanding stakeholder requirements to convert them into project deliverables and schedules
- Understand different project delivery methods and define strategies for design and engineering deliverables including construction and permit packages for various jurisdictions.
- Implement innovative design methodologies and own the full design and engineering efforts for infrastructure construction development from concept to delivery to meet aggressive goals and schedules
- On-board consultant support, as needed, including Request for Proposals, invoicing, and overseeing the team
- Drive complex decisions, identify resource requirements, and highlight gaps across various stages for all projects
- Understand lean construction principles and fully integrated design using BIM
Requirements
• Minimum 7+ years of professional experience managing complex Architectural projects with heavy MEP scope, such as, R&D facilities, workplace, and site infrastructure
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or B.S. in Civil, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical Engineering; M.Arch preferred but not required, or equivalent experience
• CA RA or AIA license preferred; Project Architect experience is a plus
• Advanced project management skills demonstrating application of project and program management fundamentals to solve complex engineering problems
• Experience with BIM software, including Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud, and project management software such as Plan Grid
• Ability to effectively execute many projects and tasks in parallel and prioritize critical tasks.
• Communicate with, and present to, technical and non-technical team members effectively
• Positive, enthusiastic, fast learner, can-do mindset and passionate about building complex infrastructure
Willingness to travel to support infrastructure development in the Bay Area

$88,000 – $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
