The Random House Publishing Group is seeking a Designer to join their team.
The Designer will be responsible for a large and diverse list of titles, covering many genres for the division’s wide array of imprints.
This individual will handle all aspects of interior book design:
- This includes editorial and author consultation, complete interior design, and all follow-through to bound book
- Those responsibilities also require the composition of galleys for print, while using our proprietary mark-up system to facilitate the creation of eBooks
- They will also hire illustrators, cartographers, etc., negotiate contracts, and be the staff liaison for free-lanced projects
- They will collaborate with production editors and production managers to ensure our schedules are met
This person must have at least five to ten years of previous interior book design experience.
- They must have the ability to handle a wide range of creative complexities, including illustrated and four-color books
- There needs to be a thorough knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign
- A knowledge of the overall production process is also recommended
- They will need to have strong communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and be able to cope with demanding deadlines
- A strong knowledge of typography and design is mandatory
