General Summary:

Designs and develops software across the stack for web applications and engineering tools that include programming at the data layer, integration layer, API layer, and the UI layer. Develops systems, integrations, APIs and solutions that are focused, but not limited to, engineering. Manages/tracks the software development process from development to production release in collaboration with other IT teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
• 5+ years of IT-relevant work experience with Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems).
OR
7+ years of IT-relevant work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
• 4+ years of work experience with Full-stack Application Development (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.).
• 3+ years of work experience with Data Structures, algorithms, and data stores.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 8+ years of IT-relevant work experience.
• 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
• 2+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.
• 2+ years of work experience in engineering applications in cloud.
• 1+ year of work experience with distributed systems and pipelines.
• 1+ year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Sr. Director and above).
• 1+ year of working with operating budgets and/or project financials.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Designs and develops complex back-end/front-end applications, associated integrations, and required test harnesses independently.
• Collaborates across the enterprise to define standards for application architectures and best practices.
• Develops, creates, and modifies software to build observable fault-tolerant systems and services.
• Writes complex reliable, testable, and maintainable code.
• Designs and develops complex system integrations and APIs.
• Designs, builds, and deploys pipelines that handle the software lifecycle.
• Acts as a technical lead for complex medium-size projects to ensure they are driven to completion.
• Collaborates with users of the system/application to help define software roadmaps.
• Anticipates complex issues, discusses within and outside of project team to identify and implement system solutions or other complex technical information.
• Adapts to significant challenges to meet deadlines independently; helps team members manage time, tasks, and workload to deal with challenges in a timely manner.
• Networks with senior leaders across functions and seeks out learning opportunities to increase own knowledge, skill, and overall expertise in the IT Software Development field; shares expertise within and/or across teams.
• Serves as escalation point for technical issues within projects to address challenges and resolve problems.
• Leads technical conversations to ensure performance metrics and measurement tools align to industry standards.
• Communicates technical solutions, recommendations, and financial impact of decisions with business owner.
• Writes clear and detailed technical documentation for complex or difficult projects.

Level of Responsibility:
• Working independently with little supervision.
• Provides some supervision/guidance to other members.
• Decisions are more significant in their impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives. Errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results. Errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.
• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. Role may require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.
• Works within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules and result in the re-allocation of some resources.
• Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to make key decisions).
• Most tasks do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.
• Substantial creativity is needed to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
• Deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.
• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.

Pay range:
$122,000.00 – $183,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
