This per diem, DEXA Technologist position is located at the Hill Imaging Center in Glendora!

Pay Range: $25/hour – $30/hour

The schedule is variable, but includes:
Weekdays from 8am-5pm (2-3 days/week, as needed)

Saturdays from 8am-5pm (at least 2 Saturdays/month)

Here are some of the responsibilities –

  • Responsible for operating X-ray and/or DEXA (bone density) equipment that assists radiologists and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.
  • Provide complete and accurate paperwork to submit to radiologists in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean work area and pleasant atmosphere for patients & co-workers.
  • Put away supplies in storage room and occasionally ordering of supplies. Stock dressing rooms with clean gowns daily and keeping rooms clean.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  • Perform diagnostic Bone Density procedures and enter orders for any needed additional exams into electronic medical record per protocol.
  • Position Patient to obtain the optimal scan, while also ensuring maximum radiation protection.
  • Set up all equipment and supplies for procedures and exams.
  • Escort patient to and from exam room, assist patient on and off exam tale, and escort or direct patients to other departments or appropriate locations.
  • Explain and coach patient through the exam or procedure.
  • Exercise sound technical judgment for approval of scan quality or possible additional imaging.
  • Answer telephone and in-house inquiries regarding patient exams, procedures, and preparations for exams.
  • Process scans in a timely manner for reading physician.
  • Assistant radiology staff as needed.
  • Maintains required records including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
  • Maintains supplies and orders as necessary.
  • Available to work Saturdays and cover various weekday if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Associate’s degree in radiological technology from accredited X-ray program, (preferred).
  • Two years of experience as X-ray technician, preferably in medical practice environment, (preferred).
  • California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration (plus).
  • Completion of courses in radiological technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT and Certified Radiologic Technology (CRT) for the State of California.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.

Skills:

  • Skill in positioning patients properly.
  • Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
  • Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures.

Abilities:

  • Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure required.
  • Ability to notice detail in drawings and differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Environment: Work is performed primarily in the X-Ray area with extensive contact with individuals and frequent interruptions.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an imaging center setting; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. This position requires the incumbent to experience periods of prolonged standing, walking, carrying, climbing, reaching and lifting (10 pounds for 85-95% of work-shift time; 25 pounds for 30-40% of work-shift time; 50 pounds for 30-60% of work-shift time). Regularly required to stand for long periods of time; will sit 15-20% of their work-shift time; will stand for 85% of their work-shift time; will walk for approximately 90-100% of the work-shift time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel approximately 90-100% of work-shift time; reach with hands and arms approximately 85-95% of work-shift time; talk or hear approximately 90-100% of work-shift time. To operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type, operate a calculator, telephone, copier and such other office equipment as necessary.
  • Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens. Must have ability to ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The lights in the office include fluorescent lighting.
  • Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
