Diamond Turning Operator, Project Kuiper

Amazon Project Kuiper, an initiative to launch a satellite constellation to provide broadband connectivity is looking for a senior Diamond Turning Operator that will lead the process development to polish and coat optical components.

Key job responsibilities
• Develop process to polish complex optics using diamond turning equipment
• Perform operation and setup of CNC diamond turning equipment
• Measure parts to conformity using white light microscope, interferometer, and profilometer in process and complete parts
• Perform both visual inspection and various manual measurements with precision gages
• Review drawings and tolerances provide feedback to design engineers prints and tolerances
• Drive continuous improvement
• Extremely high attention to detail
• Work independently managing time to keep up with production demands
• Cross train in other optical manufacturing processes

Export Control Requirement:

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience in high-speed manufacturing, coating or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of diamond turning experience
  • Experience writing work instructions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to use and comprehend metrology data from instruments like interferometry, surface roughness and profilometer.
  • Familiarization with ISO and MIL-Spec guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand GD&T technical drawings
  • Ability to review data for failure analysis and root cause corrective actions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet
  • Positive attitude, including ability to quickly adapt to changes in production requirements.
  • Experience with fixture design and machining
  • Experience with optical fabrication & Coating
  • Experience with writing procedures
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, 6 sigma, 5S or equivalent experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $72,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $182,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
