Position Summary
This position is located in the Art History Department within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Digital Art Lab Manager performs a wide range of tasks to maintain the digital facilities for a variety of studio art and music classes throughout the year. Our two digital labs currently host 30 iMac computers, four Epson inkjet printers, one large format Canon printer and three flatbed scanners. Because of high demand and limited resources, these spaces are currently reserved for students enrolled in courses taught within the Department of Art and Art History, like digital photography, video, animation, and web design. The lab also houses our photography equipment center, which currently holds 20 DSLR cameras, 9 video cameras, 10 audio recorders, and a variety of other accessories like lighting kits, tripods, microphones, and lenses. The Music Department also offers digital music composition classes in these spaces. Our space is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week to those who are enrolled in courses. We service over 100 individual students per semester with between 200-400 transactions.
The Digital Art Lab Manager is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the running of the digital labs at all levels. This includes implementing new procedures, maintaining existing equipment, identifying new equipment needs, managing the budget, meeting with the faculty and chair to ensure curricular needs are being met, and advocating for resources (including funding) as needed to meet the multifaceted necessities of our undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty. The Digital Art Lab Manager must also maintain updated knowledge of changing technologies and play a role in advising and working with the faculty to envision the technical needs of the department. Additionally, the Lab Manager may be asked to conduct small workshops for students on equipment usage.
