Overview
The Digital Content Assistant is part of the Communications and Marketing digital team and supports the production of content for the college website, Mac Daily (daily e-newsletter), college events calendar, digital signage, and broadcast email messages for alumni and parents. This position collaborates frequently with two other digital team members on projects, and team members serve as backup for each other.
Responsibilities
- Supports digital content production for the college website. Updates web pages centrally maintained by Communications and Marketing. Assists with WordPress theme implementation, including layout changes and content realignment to match new theme specifications. Helps campus partners with updates to their navigation and website content.
- Produces broadcast email messages for alumni and parent audiences using email management and customer relationship management (CRM) tools. Compiles submitted content, formats images, develops and sends proofs, and schedules sends.
- Compiles and edits content for Mac Daily, Macalester’s internal email newsletter, and college events calendar. Coordinates review and production process, working with content providers and proofreaders to resolve questions and ensure accuracy.
- Supports Macalester’s digital marketing campaigns through research, packaging content for the various platforms, making SEO updates, and basic reporting.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in communication and marketing, in particular websites, emails, or other digital projects.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Solid communication skills including writing, editing, proofreading, and presenting to individuals or small groups. Experience with email newsletter production and distribution and website content production. Basic design skills.
- Ability to listen effectively, assess communication problems quickly, and either solve them or escalate them to those who can. Analyze public communications to ensure basic quality (readability, accuracy), brand compliance, and appropriateness.
- Flexibility to work on multiple projects in various stages, including ongoing work and special or shorter-term projects. Takes responsibility for assignments and ensures completion on deadline.
- Proficient in office-suite applications (e.g., Google Apps, Microsoft Office). Experience with broadcast email platforms, web content management systems (e.g., WordPress), Adobe Photoshop, digital asset management systems (e.g., Media Valet), and/or learning other communications technologies. Basic or better understanding of HTML and CSS; willingness to learn MJML.
- Eagerness to learn about communications methods and technologies. Exceptional customer service orientation and attention to detail. Experience with helping non-technical people solve technical problems.
Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is $23-$25.50, depending on experience.
