Digital Content Strategist

This role is ideal for an experienced person within web development, digital marketing, or other communications fields.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Advancement and Communications, the Digital Content Strategist is a member of the Communications and Advancement team, and will be responsible for website administration and management, including planning, creating, editing, and managing content that support the school’s strategic goals and initiatives. The ideal candidate is a service-oriented, flexible problem solver, able to listen to and communicate with stakeholders across all areas of the school.

This position:
– Develops schedules, workflows, and content inventories, conducts gap analysis, collaborates on visual design.
– Makes timely edits, updates, and ensures information on websites is accurate and engaging.
– Writes and edits content for accuracy, plain language, search engine optimization (SEO) and its appropriateness for target audiences.
– Ensures content meets style guide, editorial, and accessibility guidelines, and follows the UW-Madison/School of Human Ecology brand voice and tone.
– Collaborates with project owners and colleagues to align and leverage content across channels.
– Monitors and analyzes performance metrics, such as website traffic, engagements, conversions, and use data-driven insights to refine content strategies.
– Creates journey maps, wireframes, storyboards, outlines, or other tools that help guide a project’s content through several iterations.

The successful candidate will be expected to learn about academic, scholarly, and related activities in the School of Human Ecology and interact with responsible unit leaders to advance strategic goals.
Responsibilities: Reviews, edits, produces, and troubleshoots content for websites, blogs, and online presence across different platforms. Assists with overall planning for website maintenance, expansion, and reorganization, keeps current on digital trends, and engages in forward thinking about upcoming content needs.

  • 10% Reviews, edits, produces, and troubleshoots content for website and online presence
  • 20% Defines content requirements, gathers website update content from internal and external partners, and performs content updates
  • 25% Plans for website upkeep, expansion, and reorganization
  • 15% Determines strategy for website content
  • 5% Acts as a training and trouble-shooting resource for staff
  • 5% Develops blog and social content based on local programming, events, and educational services
  • 10% Pitches creative online projects which support the unit in its mission and goals and engage the audience
  • 10% Conducts keyword research and uses SEO strategies to optimize web-based content

Qualifications:
Required:
– 3+ years experience in digital marketing or similar web/technology-related field.
– Professional experience with a content management system (CMS), WordPress is preferred.
– Demonstrated experience writing and editing for the web.
– Knowledge of and experience implementing the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
– Proven experience with measurement tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console
– Familiarity with email marketing tools, Eloqua is preferred

The annual starting salary for this position is listed as $60,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
