Job Description

Under administrative direction, Director Fiscal and Business Operations is responsible for the development, maintenance and administration of operational, capital budget and general business services for state, local, sponsored and auxiliary accounts. Develops and prepares statistical and financial analyses and projections. Establishes fiscal guidelines to sustain a sound financial status.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field and eight (8) to ten (10) years of administrative experience, which includes at least five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in computer applications and technology.
  • Experience in preparing and analyzing complex financial models and forecasts.
  • Experience in effectively coordinating and supervising work of others, meeting deadlines, collaborating and working in a team environment.
  • Experience in preparing business models, pro forma financial statements, and agreement scenarios to support financial decision making.
  • Evidence of a degree in accounting or a related field
  • Experience in maintaining financial records via Quickbooks
  • Evidence of supervisory experience and leading a team
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed financial statements
  • Experience overseeing financial audits and working with internal and external auditors
  • Experience with Workday, Adaptive Planning, Concur and PeopleSoft
  • Experience handling employee relations matters, hiring, and compensation

Essential Duties

  • Develops, maintains and administers operational, capital budget and general business services for state, local, sponsored, gift and auxiliary accounts.
  • Assists in the development of university and campus strategic initiatives, goals, objectives, fiscal plans and performance outcomes.
  • Directs department budget planning and management of the day to day operations and activities.
  • Manages personal services budget, expenditures and revenues; reviews and authorizes purchase of supplies, services, and equipment.
  • Develops and prepares statistical and financial analyses and projections as they relate to Arizona PBS revenues.
  • Manages, plans, and oversees the department annual audit reviews working closely with external auditors to ensure all financial activity is properly documented.
  • Develops and prepares business models, pro forma financial statements, and agreement scenarios to support financial decision making.
  • Coordinates grant proposal, providing financial and budgetary information.
  • Establishes fiscal guidelines to sustain a sound financial status.
  • Coordinates and supervises the work of support staff.
  • Interprets and applies pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by university or other governing agencies.
  • Participates in the development, review and revision of university policies.
  • Oversees and manages all hiring items, such as steps to ensure correct job classification, requested salary posting, and screening questions are consistent with the requested position, interviewing, selection, new hire actions.
  • Works closely in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources, resolves or assists with the resolution of sensitive human resource issues and advises and assists management and staff in the handling of employee relations issues, complaints and/or grievances, including providing alternatives and facilitating decision-making for determining appropriate actions.
  • Coordinates salary adjustments and monitor for compliance university guidelines.
  • Assists with negotiating leases and administer contracts and leases as required.
  • Serves or represents departmental/area interests on committees and boards.
  • Coordinates or assumes other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
