Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

The Director, Business Information Architect position, is a leader within the Business Insurance Shared Value Stream. This person is responsible for:
– Understanding our business processes as well as the data flows that align to those processes.
– Articulating and documenting those data flows in partnership with our Technical Architecture team, to help create reusable patterns, guidelines and best practices; what we want to do and what we want to stop doing.
– Supporting our agile teams in spotting and communicating dependencies across multiple efforts and systems across BI to ensure we are achieving the business outcomes with the best data solutions possible.
– Promoting the Business Information Architecture Best Practices and Guidelines across the BCO
The type of individual we are looking for will have strong oral and written communications; understanding of the Business Insurance business and types of data and analytics needed to support it; ability to identify and document reusable patterns, guiding principles and best practices; ability to talk to all levels of the organization; ability to deal with ambiguity.
The Work Arrangement for this position is based on location.
What Will You Do?
- Creation and ongoing maintenance of Business Information Architecture guiding principles and standards
- Support key business efforts to ensure business architectural principles are applied
- Support our architecture modernization (Cloud) efforts across BCO (Product and Data Modernization, Simplification)
- Development of holistic data solutions that focus on ensuring our strategic data assets have the right data from the right sources in alignment with business needs and priorities
- Ensure alignment to Enterprise data strategies
- Coordinate with BCO Circle leads, Business Architects, Business Solution Architects and Technology architects; work together to ensure holistic solution of business process, data process and system design is aligned to strategy and business needs
- Provide business data solution focused leadership support at a value stream / circle level, for specific capabilities, ensuring we are leveraging and maximizing strategic data products/solutions:
- Facilitate discussions to define and communicate overall business information architecture and data management strategies, partnering across the BCO and our other architecture practices (Business Architecture, Business Solution Architecture, and Technical Architecture)
- Partner with all stakeholders to understand, document and communicate current state, future state solution, and any steps or interim solutions needed
- Understand data monitoring needs and ensure they are met
- Engage/provide leadership support to our agile teams for creation of roadmap, milestone plan and metrics reporting
- Understand and coordinate data dependencies across BCO – partnering with Product Owners across all impacted teams. Be able to speak to the scope of the data work being executed within BCO to support the effort
- Works closely with Product Owners and serves as escalation point for solution related data issues raised by the teams
- Partner with Customer Success and our Product Owners to communicate data dependencies, risks & issues within SVS teams back to the Value Stream
- Leverage knowledge of data models, data relationships, mapping lineage and business rules to ensure that solutions meet operational and business needs
- Create processes and workflows to capture knowledge, find information and maintain its relevance
- Articulate guiding principles and frameworks that align with the strategic vision
- Effectively manage resources to implement ongoing projects, enhancements, initiatives and/or problem resolution.
- May coach team members on performing complex data profiling and analysis and communicate results in support of data quality processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Excellent ability to use ETL / Data Integration tools, one or more Data platforms, and Cloud Computing Technologies and related emerging technology.
- Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following Tools and languages – SQL, Teradata, Python, Hive, MicroStrategy, Ab Initio, Messaging, NoSQL.
- Ability to understand metadata management, including metadata management, lineage, and cataloging.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management.
- Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to break a problem down into manageable pieces, evaluate potential risks/alternatives, and implement effective, timely solutions.
- Able to develop and leverage business and/or vendor partnerships, consult on business priorities, and optimize value through solution identification aligned with business objectives, goals, and future data direction.
- Experience leading and managing complex projects.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage change, develop employees, and align resources to accomplish key objectives.
- Advanced understanding of emerging trends and new technologies in knowledge management.
- Strong understanding of overall physical and logical data model and of data relationships, mapping, lineage and business rules.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor’s degree or five years of relevant data and analytics, and/or data management experience.
