For this highly coveted position, we are looking for a Seattle-based leader who is ready to drive consumer brand news and storytelling, and also protect the brand from associated issues. This role serves to develop and advance our consumer brand narratives in close partnership with our business and marketing teams and through centralized external communications within public affairs. Are you experienced in developing relationships with business leaders to influence an external news agenda? Are you skilled in promoting and protecting a consumer brand through proactive and reactive media strategies? Do you have demonstrated relationships with members of the media? This role requires:

  • a natural disposition to work with urgency in a fast-paced environment in which every day is unlike the last.
  • An understanding and ability to leave integrated marketing communications programs for highly matrixed organization
  • Schedule flexibility and availability for critical after-hours assignments.
  • Proven ability to establish trusted media relationships as well as relationship at all levels of the organization
  • Stellar written and verbal communication skills – particularly the ability to decode corporate speak and write clear and persuasive “human” content that engages a wide range of stakeholders. (Please submit various writing samples with your application.)

  • A solid grasp of narrative, awareness of audiences, exceptional attention to detail, and are a forward-thinking team player who works collaboratively.

This director will lead all Starbucks consumer brand public relations, serving to promote and protect the highly coveted brand through development of our proactive consumer brand news agenda, consumer brand positioning in partnership with senior business leaders, both proactive and reactive strategies for external communications, and leadership of internal and agency team in execution of strategy and positioning. Strong understanding, relationships and experience with the media landscape is critical to this role.

As a director, consumer brand communications, you will…

  • Engage daily with senior leaders and top tier journalists to influence and drive an always-on, proactive news agenda and earned media strategy for Starbucks
  • Lead strategy, messaging and execution for all Starbucks consumer public relations with high touch integration to our consumer business
  • Oversee a lean team of internal and external agency partners for strategy building and execution of highly integrated, cross-functional marketing and communications activations

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Consumer brand communications and media relations leadership, preferably seasoned in external communications at a multi-unit retailer and/or an agency (10+ years)
  • Developing, leading and managing teams (5+ years)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply general business knowledge and experience in a complex, fast-paced global environment
