The anticipated salary range for this role is between $96,000.00 and $143,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, FCC Analytics in the Compliance Department, Americas Division, the Data Analytics Director performs detailed analytics work in an independent fashion in support of the Compliance Analytics group’s goals and objectives. This position is focused on data governance and testing within the BSA/AML/Sanctions compliance space, and will execute governance and testing projects in this space. This role will also lead collection, aggregation, analysis and visualization of customer, product, and transaction data. They will develop reports for use by SMBC Americas Division and Head Office stakeholders and performs analysis in support of the design, implementation, and enhancement of BSA/AML tools and systems, including AML transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems..
Role Objectives
- Execute BSA/AML and Sanctions data testing and governance projects, in accordance with SMBC and Compliance department strategy
- Collect, aggregate, analyze, and visualize customer, product, and transaction data to identify trends and evaluate changes of customer, product, and transactional risk exposure.
- Develop MIS reports for submission to senior Branch management.
- Work with Japan Research Institute-America partners to develop and test tools and systems in line with policy and regulatory expectations.
- Develop knowledge of new analytical techniques and data sources that provide ongoing risk mitigation, and how emerging data and technology issues may impact the achievement of BSA/AML Compliance Department’s objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience/Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or other related field).
- 10-15 years of BSA/AML compliance experience, particularly with data, platforms, and data management.
- Strong reasoning ability and analytical skills.
- Ability to transform Compliance business problems and requirements into analytics work product. Ability to develop work product independently and in a fluid environment.
- BSA/AML compliance experience, particularly with data, platforms, and data management.
- Experience in leading data governance and testing projects.
- Knowledge of vendor BSA/AML transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems (e.g., Actimize, Fircosoft, Fortent)
- Experience with some or all of the following technologies to build analysis and drive insights from data:
- Database: Oracle (PL/SQL), Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL)
- Analytics tools: R, Python
- Reporting tools: PowerBI, Tableau, Excel
- Azure
- Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite.
- Maintains high level of confidentiality; unquestionable character, integrity and professionalism.
- Familiarity with regtech is a plus.
- ACAMS certified or other equivalent industry certification is a plus.
