About the Role
In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Data Insights who will deliver data insights to support Braven’s central functions of External Affairs, People & Operations, Finance, Strategy, and the Office of the CEO. As a member of the Data Insights team within the broader Product team at Braven, you will be a highly skilled individual contributor who will help the rest of the organization quantify and describe our impact for internal and external audiences and inform organizational strategy.
This role is on the Product team and reports directly to the VP, Insights.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Data Insights’ support for Braven’s central teams (External Affairs, People & Operations, Finance, and Strategy) (60%)
- Provide cyclical and ad hoc data insights and thought partnership to organizational efforts such as Braven’s annual Impact and Job Reports, philanthropic applications and reporting, internal culture and learning & development projects, etc.
- Create and pilot new analytical processes, reports, and dashboards in service of other central teams’ strategic priorities
- Capacity building (20%)
- Support training efforts across the organization to increase data literacy, help others better communicate insights from data, and reinforce Braven’s data-driven culture
- Cross-functional project contribution (20%)
- Be a member of Braven’s cross-functional project teams, as needed. Project teams centrally plan and execute Braven programming and execute other strategic projects.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in quantitative field or work experience that demonstrates expertise in quantitative analysis
- 5+ years of experience in a non-profit data role, strategy consulting, or other analytical function
- Advanced spreadsheet-based analysis and at least one of the following: Python, SQL, R
- Frequent experience in a prior role writing and presenting compelling data-driven stories, arguments, and narratives for large internal and external audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- You enjoy telling stories with data and pair that with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- You have deep experience conducting complex data analysis with different tools and statistical packages while working with others to make use of findings, preferably in the non-profit field.
- You have a strong design sense, creating models and analysis that follow elegant logic, are easily interpretable by other data specialists, are easy to repeat, and are clearly documented.
- You love collaboration and are good at it. You understand why data is important to your organization and how it is in service of a shared mission.
- You excel at daily operations, paying close attention to detail and communicating well with stakeholders.
- You have the following technical skills and knowledge:
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Asana
- Proficiency in Tableau, PowerBI, or other data visualization software
- Proficiency in Salesforce
- You demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion.

- Travel roughly 4 times per year for team stepbacks or staff retreats

Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $86,800-$108,400 in Atlanta, $91,300-$114,100 in Chicago, and $100,500-$125,600 in Newark or New York City. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. You will have an opportunity to discuss salary in more detail after you begin the application process.

- Unlimited vacation time in addition to org-wide holidays and week-long shutdowns in July and the end of the calendar year (this is a minimum of 19 days per year)

Location
We gather in the office two to three days a week. Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of one of our hubs: Atlanta, Chicago, Newark, or New York City. Each teammate can use at least two flex days per week of their choosing to work remotely. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
