Director- Insurance Risk Management

Scope of Position

To identify, evaluate, control, and minimize EDF Renewables, Inc.’s North America (EDFR NA) exposure to loss or damage to physical assets, workers’ accidents or injuries, fidelity losses, and losses from liability claims, and establish and maintain a long-term insurance strategy for EDFR NA’s various business lines. Manage and bind corporate and project insurance policies. Manage broker, carrier, and other market relationships. Coordinate with, support, and provide active outreach to other EDFR NA business units, including the development, construction, procurement, financing, and asset management teams, to ensure EDFR NA’s insurance priorities are implemented throughout EDFR NA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer risk-management and loss-prevention programs, including, without limitation placing and maintaining insurance as appropriate in coordination with senior management.
  • Gathers and analyzes loss information; identifies conditions and situations conducive to loss prevention.
  • Works as a service provider to various departments to design, establish, and implement loss control measures and programs.
  • Review company contracts as appropriate for compliance with existing insurance programs and risk management policies.
  • Prepares recommendations concerning the options of self-assumption of risks or the purchase of commercial insurance.
  • Negotiates with insurance brokers to obtain the most appropriate types of coverage.
  • Works directly with the Health, Safety and Environment team and other departments on safety, fire prevention, security, and other loss prevention programs.
  • Regularly evaluates the costs incurred from various risks to determine whether a revision of policies is in order.
  • Works directly with accounting on an annual basis to prepare the annual insurance budget based on history and projections for the upcoming period.
  • Manage and ensure compliance for Certificates of Insurance, as required.
  • Manage and administer insurance claims, including but not limited to in-house investigations, interacting with representatives of EDFR NA’s brokers and/or insurance company representatives, coordinating documentation to appropriate parties, etc.
  • Act as liaison to attorneys, insurance companies, and EDFR NA employees, investigating any incidences that may result in loss.
  • Cooperate with the EDFR NA global insurance team as requested to align reporting and claims handling, and to realize synergies and consistency in policies and coverage.
  • Create, administer, and ensure compliance with Insurance Risk Management policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with EDFR NA and international policies and procedures.
  • Prepare a comprehensive training program for new hires and existing employees on insurance industry and EDFR NA insurance standards, practices, market changes and any developments in risk and insurance, and at least annually update same.
  • Other duties as assigned by General Counsel or his/her designee.

Working Conditions:

80% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS software programs), phones, and general office equipment.

Up to 20% of the time spent in the field, either at corporate offices, EDFR NA projects sites, or conferences and seminars.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Budgeting for insurance department.
  • Authorizing payment for insurance related programs.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree. Advanced education (master’s level degree), preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Professional industry designations CPCU, ARM, AU, CIC, preferred.
  • Ten years of professional experience in the administration of risk management, safety, or similar programs including workers compensation, property/casualty, and liability claims.
  • Knowledge of insurance contract language, insurance underwriting, and claims processing.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and potential risks.
  • Able to demonstrate experience in developing, recommending, implementing, and evaluating loss-control program

Page Range: $144,535 – $240,875 Annually
