About the Job

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director, Insurance & Safety Risk Management to lead our Risk Management team. The Director of Risk reports to our Chief Accounting Officer and will be a business partner who adds value by seeking ways to proactively monitor and manage risk and reduce claims in across the business. This role will help set the strategic vision for risk management, collaborate with stakeholders to execute against the vision, and monitor progress towards goals. This leader will exhibit strong business process knowledge, possess a broad-based operational perspective, and proactively provide solutions for any and all related risk issues.

What You’ll Do | Key Accountabilities

This role is responsible for four (4) key areas of risk management, including:

GENERAL LIABILITY & WORKERS COMP CLAIM PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Leads the team that develops and maintains policies and procedures applicable to GL/WC claim handling.
  • Oversees the relationship and leads the direction of the Third-Party Claims Administrator in the handling of outsourced claims ensuring adherence to service level agreements.
  • Leads the internal teams on GL/WC matters to help identify adverse trends, mitigate exposures, and educate management.

SAFETY PERFORMANCE AND IMPROVEMENTS

  • Leads Safety in partnership the field team to help identify claim root causes and loss trends to reduce both frequency and severity as well as minimize OSHA exposure.
  • Supports corporate safety mission through the development or enhancement of safety programs.
  • Leads the safety team in conducting audits in store and operations buildings and monitors findings for improvements or further action as required.

INSURANCE PROCUREMENT

  • Secures companywide insurance, (e.g., Casualty, Property, Cyber, Fiduciary, etc.) through cultivating broker and carrier relationships to ensure the best-in-class coverage and rates for the company.
  • Leads the annual renewal for all Risk and Liability insurance coverages in partnership with leadership and outside brokers. Work with accounting department in establishing and monitoring actuarial reserves.

ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING & CRISIS MANAGEMENT

  • Rolls out and monitors the Enterprise Risk Management processes, ensuring annual refreshes of risk landscape and responses, working with risk owners and their delegates to ensure plans are in place to monitor KPIs associated with these risks and plans.
  • Facilitate annual refresh of the Crisis Management plan, including training and rollout of associated plans and tools across the organization.
  • Facilitate annual refresh of Business Continuity Plans across the organization, including partnering with IT on incorporation of Disaster Recovery considerations.

What You’ll Bring | Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors or another relevant Degree required.
  • At least 12 years of experience with 7-10 years of experience of leadership in risk management.
  • Previous experience in large, self-insured programs, including self-administered litigated claims experience strongly preferred.
  • CPCU, ARM, and/or CRM credentials desirable.
  • Effective and results driven leader, who is dynamic, proactive, and decisive. Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization.
  • Executive presence with demonstrated ability to lead change and drive execution; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills needed to effectively share and engage internal stakeholders and clinical areas with the most relevant data.
  • Strong understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property, and other risk programs.
  • Financial acumen for insurance procurement, budgeting, and all aspects of risk management including actuarial analysis, allocation of risk programs, claim trend analysis and management reporting.
  • Goal-driven leader who maintains a productive climate and confidently motivates, mobilizes, and coaches employees to meet high performance standards.
  • Results-driven achiever with exemplary planning and organizational skills, along with strong attention to detail.

Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach daily.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.
  • Hours regularly 40 hours per week, as work dictates from a remote office location.

$120,000 – $170,000. We take into consideration an individual’s skills, background, and experience in determining final salary. Other compensation may include a 20% Annual Incentive Plan (AIP) bonus paid out according to policy. Base pay information is based on market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
